SEE & DO

THINGS TO DO......PLACES TO SEE

The Charente region has one of the mildest climates in France, enjoying hours of sunshine from Spring through to Autumn. Situated conveniently, this gently undulating hilly area borders the Haute-Vienne and the historic and creative city of Limoges to the east, the dynamic university town of Poitiers and the Vienne to the north, and becomes flatter as it heads west towards the coast, encompassing the stunning port of La Rochelle and the magnificent Île de Ré. In the south lie the vast grape vineyards used in the production of Cognac and the famous local apéritif wine Pineau des Charentes, together with the ‘city of comics’, Angoulême and its wall art. Pretty little villages and hamlets dot the surrounding countryside and there are beautiful Chateaux to be found all over the region.

Below are a small sample of our suggestions for things to do and places to see.....

YOUR HOSTS

Welcome to Creu de Grelet! We are Colin and Tracy and we have spent most of our lives working in the music and arts industry in the UK and Iceland, before settling here in this beautiful region of South Western France.

We dreamt of moving to France ever since we set foot in this wonderful country on family holidays when our two daughters were young. Each time we ventured across the channel, we explored yet another region.

Eventually in 2017 we found our house Creu de Grelet (Occitan for ‘Cricket Hollow’) set within the rolling hills of the Charente. We fell in love straight away and immediately recognised this house has a wonderful, welcoming soul and would make the perfect home and Chambre d’hôtes.  We made the permanent move to France in August 2018 and we have not looked back!

Creu de Grelet is a beautiful Maison de Maitre, built in 1834. It was once the farmhouse for the surrounding land and from its commanding position on the hill, it has the most wonderful views across the valley to the Charente river. Since our arrival, we have added our creative flair to this special house, decorating in a style that we love, mixing old and new, Scandi and French style and enhancing the many original features this house has in abundance.

We look forward to welcoming you to our slice of heaven!
